ARLINGTON, Va., Sept. 21, 2011 -- World T.E.A.M. Sports, an Arlington, Virginia-based national inclusive sports management organization, was named today as one of 60 non-profits competing in the Halftime Hand-Off competition sponsored by Toyota USA.
"We are really pleased and honored to have been chosen by Toyota for this competition," said World T.E.A.M. Sports President Paul Bremer. "It will give all the thousands of people we've touched over the years an opportunity to show their support for our continuing mission of providing exciting athletic events for the disabled."
World T.E.A.M. Sports is competing against three other charities during this first week of the 14 week competition. The Halftime Hand-Off will provide support to 14 select charities through $10,000 donations to the non-profit organizations receiving the most votes in intense, weekly e-voting competitions.
Each week's winning organization will be featured in a short video and announced at halftime of the subsequent Sunday Night NFL football game on NBC. During the final week of competition, the four top vote recipients from the preceding 14 weeks will go head-to-head for an additional $10,000 donation. In total, Toyota is donating $150,000 to nonprofit organizations through the Halftime Hand-Off.
For more than 20 years, World T.E.A.M. Sports has used athletics to challenge disabled and non-disabled men, women and children to accomplish goals they never thought possible. At all our events – whether mountain climbing, bicycling, white water rafting or many other sports – four things always happen: (1) Disabled participants build self confidence and physical fitness; (2) The disabled provide a role model for other disabled citizens, encouraging them to take up athletic activities; (3) The disabled provide a moving inspiration to other participants and to spectators when they see disabled individuals can reach goals and meet challenges beyond anyone's imagination; (4) The disabled and non-disabled participants become a team, working together to overcome those challenges. World T.E.A.M. Sports is a registered 501(c)(3) organization.
